Tondo celebrates feast day of Sto. Niño

MANILA, Philippines – Residents of Tondo celebrated the feast of the Sto. Niño, which has the image of a Holy child.

The feast of the Sto. Niño de Tondo Church start every third Sunday of January where citizens of Tondo hold different activities for the celebration.  People hang banderitas and decorate arches all throughout the district. The most anticipated event in the fiesta is the Lakbayaw Festival, a street dance competition among schools, community, groups and religious organizations.

Last Saturday, January 20, thousands of devotees joined the grand parade of the Sto. Niño statues on the streets.

The Sto. Niño, which has the image of a Holy child, is the most recognized religious image in the Philippines. Aside from Tondo, there are other anticipated feasts all throughout the country including the Sto. Niño de Malolos Festival in Malolos Bulacan and the most popular, the Sinulog Festival in Cebu.
