In the hustle and bustle of life we don’t even take time to pause. When was the last time you look up the sky just to see if there are clouds in the shape of an elephant? When was the last time you stood in front of a butterfly trying to stay still as if your improvised statue would attract the elusive creature? And when was the last time you spent your hours at home, eat with your family and stare at their faces taking mental photographs of their beauty?
We demand action every now and then that even taking our daily dose of slumber is a bore. We’ve worn out our bodies by working past hours so we would have enough for what we need and extra for what we want. We deliberately avoided get-togethers and getaways with friends to get that promotion. We gave up our Sunday night movie marathons and squeeze in extra work in that timeslot. We almost never look at the mirror and correctly match those pair of socks just so we can reach the deadline.
Now, this December, it would pay off. Doing the calculations of all the hours and over time we worked through, the total amount of the thirteenth month bonus we’re about to get is pretty fat. Not only that, the best part is we would have the luxury of time. We would have enough money to buy that pair of shoes in the display window of a designer brand that you’ve been prying with your buggy eyes through the clear glass or better, we could really go inside the store for the first time. We would be able to join our friends with their beach getaway and watch how the big waves disappear as the sea hit low tide. We would be able to stay up all night so we could enjoy the money we pay for the cable provider and watch all the movies they are showing. We would be able to look at ourselves on the mirror, appreciate what a wonderful human being we are and smile because it’s happy to see ourselves again. Or if we still have extra time we would be able to fold our own laundry and match the red socks with another red socks rather than a green one.
The only issue here is the time we have to spend to do these things. We never had enough and would never have enough. That would be the system until the end. The upcoming holidays would not be longer than a week but at least we have it. It should be our mission to make the best out of it. Let’s take a pause and have an I-don’t-give-a-flying-dang-attitude to whatever. It doesn’t have to be fancy, it should be worthwhile. We could end up in our home with our family with an additional of visiting relatives or we could visit them instead. A romantic date with your special someone to keep the fire burning even on this cold weather. Or just by yourself, doing simple things like reading the book you dog-eared the pages but never finished or simply take this opportunity to breathe or in other term, inspire.
