Manila, Philippines—Filipino netizens are deemed to be one of the most inaccurate and mistaken individuals when it comes to the key global issues and features of their country. 2017 Perils of Perception, a survey by Ipsos, said that among the 38 countries surveyed and questioned about their perceptions of issues on subjects ranging from murder rates, terrorist deaths, teenage pregnancy, diabetes and how healthy people felt, Philippines placed as the third most inaccurate online citizens alongside South Africa and Brazil while Sweden, Norway and Denmark had the online citizens with most accurate perceptions.

The said survey was conducted via Ipsos Online Panel System for the 38 participating countries while there were online and face-to-face methodologies were used in some places.

Philippines, together with India and Peru, despite of being one of the most ignorant in their own issues, showed confidence in answering the questions given to them. In fact, there were 33% of Filipinos who said they were confident with all of their answers when they were actually third in having the most wrong answers. Norway, Germany and Sweden who ranked the highest with the accuracy of their perceptions, on the other hand, showed less confidence with their answers.

2017 Perils of Perception is a survey by Ipsos that highlights the gap between reality and perception among a nation’s citizens.
