Is dancing to the beat. Whoever created the beat and wrote the lyrics should be given a Grammy for beating Ed Sheeran’s shape of you from being the dance anthem of the Filipinos.
Its simple lyrics is worth remembering, its beat will make you show off your best moves, But other than this novelty music being viral and an official #LSS for every Filipino. We might not see how this “Pasok mga suki…” reflects the Christmas culture of every Filipino.
Almost everyone, EVERYONE in the metro has been to the famous “Divisoria” a haven for all on-budget fashionista, thrifty mommies and most especially for Christmas shoppers. Divisoria is our go-to-shopping place when you want to save a lot from your Christmas bonus. The place where the new Christmas song originated.
As you remember that there are only a few days left until Christmas and still you don’t have presents to give, that’s when your Divisoria adventure begins. As you get off your jeepney and stepped your foot on the congested streets of divisoria, you will see thousands of people who are just like you, A Filipino who is in the rush for Christmas with one thing in mind, their godchildren:
“Ah, eto kay Marie…” (Ah, this one’s for Marie)
“Ay si junjun pa pala.” (Oh, for Junjun too)
And together you have your special haggling skill
“Ate 150 nalang isa, madami naman na akong nabili eh... sige na.”
There are times when you need to look up just to catch more air and to wipe off some sweat in your face. We can all say that during Christmas, Divisoria is the human version of EDSA but what makes our Divisoria experience better is the song every shopper are jamming into. If SM has got it all for you, well in Divisoria you have; “PASOK MGA SUKI MGA PRESYONG DIVISORIA, SAMPU SAMPU BENTE TRENTA AT IBA PA”
But nowadays you do not need to go to Divisoria just to listen to Divisoria anthem because people all over facebook are feasting on the new music, which I think has already reached number 1 in MYX daily top 10.
As you searched for these videos in Facebook, you can see thousands of shares, likes, and reactions. But why does every Filipino on social media can relate to this? Well, I only have one thing in mind. That these people are just like everyone else, ending the stressful streets of Divisoria just to get that presyong Divisoria.
According to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in the first three months of 2015, 26.3 percent of Filipinos were found living below the poverty. This translates about 26.48 million Filipinos. But no matter how hard poverty may hit us it will never stop the Filipinos to continue Christmas.
We, Filipinos no matter how little our Christmas bonus might be, how many bills we need to pay. STILL, we choose to buy the people we love gifts, because for Filipino’s that’s what Christmas is all about, Giving even though you only have a little, giving without expecting anything, Giving even though you need suffer from harsh heat and environment of Divisoria, because you know it is only in Divisoria where in you can buy gifts for the people you love even if you are on a tight budget.
The song is the music of every local Filipino people, a reflection of the Filipino Christmas, because we all want the Presyong Divisoria, even though it is only for sampu sampu, bente trenta but that small amount of money can be translated into big smiles that your godchildren, children, parents will give you after receiving the present you worked hard just to give, and that’s when everything of it is just worth it.
So the next time you received a gift from Divisoria, always say a heart-warming thank you. As they all say in the end, “it’s always the thought that counts.”
