No one could deny that Korean culture is now eminent in our country. Last year, we even have the hit phrase “Kinain na ng K-drama” or when K-drama fans see guys who looks like a korean actor, they call them “Oppa” (Korean Translation: older guy). This year, Korean culture's influence in the Philippines is still on the rise and remakes of their drama is making their way in our traditional televison.
The Kapuso Network, GMA 7, somehow wants to make a difference. Instead of showing these Korean dramas as is they started to remake the K-dramas starring Filipino artists. GMA 7 already did this before with the Filipino remake of Korean drama “My Love from the Star” last May 2017 which starred Jennylyn Mercado and Gil Cuerva that gathered positive feedbacks from its audiences.
This time, GMA 7 will remake 2016 hit Korean drama entitled “Descendants of the Sun” or "DoTS". The story revolves around a Special Forces soldier and a surgeon who fell in love with each other while facing dangers in another country damaged by war. “Pambansang Bae”, Alden Richards, is the top priority to play the male lead role while who will play the female lead role is still unknown.
However, we should understand that it is very critical to choose who will play the main characters, for the original Korean love team Song Hye Kyo and Song Joong Ki (or widely known as the SongSong couple who even got married in real-life) won the Asia Best Couple Award for the chemistry they brought while acting in this drama. Since DoTS is a well-accepted Korean drama gathering many awards last 2016, will the difference of this remake drama be warmly accepted as well? Abangan.
