MANILA, Philippines – The Spanish National Abdelhakim Labidi Adib claims that he went in the Philippines as tourist and denies charges against him as a terrorist and linked to the Abu Sayyaf militants.
On Wednesday, January 24, the Armed Forces of the Philippines filed a complaint on violation of Republic Act 9516 or illegal possession of explosives against alleged Spanish terrorist.
Labidi Adib, 20, was arrested by the military in Maluso, Basilan on the night of January 23 with his bag containing one rifle grenade, a hand grenade, a cellular phone used as detonating device, identification card, credit card and cash. He was brought to DOJ for inquest proceedings where he denied charges against him and claimed that he was not the owner of the bag.
He submitted a 10-page counter-affidavit stating that he strongly denies the charge against him considering that the complaint is without a basis, he also added, “I vehemently deny and assert that I don’t own and I have nothing to do with the alleged recovered evidence which are the hand grenade and the alleged improvised explosive devices.”
Adib said that he went to the country to see the tourist spot in Mindanao because of its good reviews, and that he want to marry a Filipina.
According to the Senior Assistant State Prosecutor Peter Ong and Assistant State Prosecutor Rodan Parrocha the case against the Spanish national is now submitted for resolution.
